Cookie policy

The original of this document is in Spanish. This version is a courtesy translation; in case of discrepancy, the Spanish one prevails. Spanish law applies.

Viralteca does not use cookies

Neither its own nor anyone else’s. There is no third-party analytics, there are no advertising pixels, there are no profiles and there is nothing that follows you from one page to the next. That is also why you will not see a banner here asking you to accept cookies: article 22.2 of the LSSI only requires consent when information is stored on or accessed from your device, and here neither of those things happens.

We do count visits, and this is how

We want to know how many people come by, and we do it with a counter of our own: a one-pixel image that adds one and nothing more. You can see the result openly, on the statistics page. This is what is stored:

  • Page views: one number per day and per page.
  • Visitors: to count them without putting a mark on you, a fingerprint of the day is calculated — an irreversible digest of your IP address and your browser, mixed with a random number that changes every morning. Your IP goes into that calculation and is forgotten on the spot: it is not stored anywhere. And because that number is deleted after two days, from then on one day’s fingerprint can no longer be recalculated. Not even we can know whether you have come back.
  • Where you arrive from: only the domain of the link that brought you — “google.com”, “x.com” — never the full address, so as not to end up storing what you searched for.
  • The country, the type of device and the browser: “Spain”, “mobile”, “Chrome”. They are broad categories that come in the request itself and that millions of people share; they are no use for recognising anyone.

None of this is stored on your device, so your consent is not needed and neither is a cookie banner. Nor is it shared with anyone: the numbers stay in our database and are shown in aggregate. The honest trade-off is that the visitor figure is approximate: someone who comes today and tomorrow counts twice, and so does someone who uses two browsers.

You can check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools, the Application or Storage tab, and you will see the list empty.

What does happen when the page loads

  • Cloudflare, which serves the site, logs the request (IP address, date, page, browser) so that the site works and to protect it from attacks. It is a server log, not a cookie, and it is explained in the privacy policy.
  • The YouTube video thumbnails are loaded from Google’s servers, which receive your IP address when they serve the image. It is the only third-party call the page makes on its own.

The video player, only if you hit play

Every video has its own page on viralteca.com and can be watched there without leaving. But the player does not load by itself: first you see the thumbnail and a button. Until you press it, the page talks to nobody.

The moment you hit play, the YouTube player comes in and YouTube installs its own cookies in your browser, as well as receiving your IP address. That is their doing and we do not control it. That is why the notice is written before the button: by pressing it you are expressly asking for it to load, and that is the only moment when third-party cookies appear.

If you play no video, your visit to Viralteca does not leave a single cookie. You can check it just as before: developer tools, Application tab, empty list.

If this changes

The day payments go live, Stripe will install cookies necessary to process the transaction and prevent fraud, and only on the payment pages. If analytics is ever added, your consent will be asked for before switching it on and this page will be updated. Any change is published here with its date.
